Me, Me, Me...

A young girl knew love -

The pride of a father,

The warmth of a grandpa,

The excitement of uncles,

The naughtiness of cousins,

The strong hopes of a female born

Into a world that favours a man.

We have big dreams for you, our baby girl.

No need to love and become a wife;

Be a doctor, be a lawyer,

Be an engineer, be strong,

Be bold, be fearless, be adventurous,

Stay high up in the skies

And play with the stars.

Your soul is a light filled with fire.

A young girl knew love.

But the love that fleeted her

And the love most desired

Was that of a knight, a prince, a king.

Why, she pondered,

When her heart was always so full;

Because she loved too hard,

Too loyal, too unselfish or too loud.

For loving, to her, means being free to choose.

Choose to stay, choose to go,

Choose to sleep, choose to wake,

choose, choose, choose.

Love is free, love is kind;

Love is to fly and fly

And then fly higher still.

Love is warmth, love is a smile

That lights the soul; love is love–

Free and wild.

For this kind of love

Takes a soul to bear a soul -

Not a face, not a body,

Not a sale, not a picture,

Not a show for people’s sake.

Show me your nakedness,

Your eyes, your soul; bear it to me

And I to you.

Now she knows the kind of love to choose.

While the wait was long, the love is true.
